As others have said, probably the first months are the most challenging. You're grieving your past self of, for me, of like 44 years! You feel good at first, then flat. Just plain flat and confused. But hanging in there, it passes! Poof and you become the you were meant to be. Alcohol was a way of life, but so freeing now that it's not.

Putting up with drunk friends. Plain and simple. Once they’d get into a couple drinks they’d start slurring slightly and repeating stories and laughing too quickly and loudly. I learned to walk away at that point, but it still bothers. As some friends have aged they’ve turned to gummies and alcohol together and it’s worse.

I hear you, Dee. I’ll be honest: I really, really don’t like being around people who are drinking (and it’s not because it makes me want to drink - kind of the opposite).
