Such a beautiful, powerful, hope-inspiring share, Gabe. Thank you.

For me, continuing to drink began to feel deeply misaligned with my mindfulness, meditation, and yoga practice. This realization was one of the primary reasons I decided to quit, and I’ll celebrate five years of sobriety this February.

What an inspiring and beautiful story Gabriel. Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your sobriety and recovery.

Mindfulness and meditation have been keys to my sobriety (2+ yrs), recovery, and finding contentment and peace within in myself.

That's so wonderful to hear, Maria! Congratulations and keep it up! And thanks for the kind words as well! I must say, the sober community of Substack has to be the nicest, most supportive online community I've ever encountered.

What finally got me across the threshold to successful recovery was definitely the spiritual spark that got lit when I was in rehab. That began an intense journey of exploring many paths. Although I'm not a "practicing Buddhist", the clinging-suffering concept is one of the most important concepts I employ as part of my recovery program. 36 years sober, and my understanding of that concept CONTINUES to unfold! Great post!

That's all so awesome to hear, Jim! 36 years is certainly no small deal. Non-attachment, Buddhist or not, is still a wonderful life skill. Thanks so much for sharing your story and thanks for reading!

Gabe, I love : Trading the Bottle for the Teapot (!!!!!). Yes.

Congrats on all your sobriety and on the deep path back to you. I’m stepping into my 5th year of sobriety and am now (finally) feeling a pull to quiet things down/sit in silence/ be more mindful. Your words spoke to me. Thank you.

I do believe suffering and pain has so much to teach us. Pain is a teacher (not a torturer).

Thank you for sharing your story.

It's amazing the transformation that mindfulness generally, and sitting with our suffering specifically, can bring about!
