So inspiring and expansive, Maria! I love how your decision to get sober led to such radical, beautiful change in your career path and livelihood. Removing one big thing that isn’t aligned sure does create powerful momentum.

Thank you Dana, yes it is all connected. Alcohol was holding up a house of cards that it turns out I did not want to inhabit anyway.

Thank you for sharing, Maria. I particularly admire how you unbecame who you thought you should be, and in the process became truer to yourself— so the drink as a ‘remedy’ to that discrepancy became redundant. Inspiring story.

Yes, Adam! I have become a person (the real me) who just doesn't need to numb with alcohol or anything else. It just took some effort to pull her out to freedom and safety.

When I turned 52 nearly 15 years ago I had 77 days. I was an executive vice president for the company that had bought my company. I too had an emptiness inside when on day 1, which was November 23, 2009. It has turned out to be the best decision of my life. I write humbly about my experiences here on Of A Sober Mind. I am grateful to read your story here thanks to the wonderful Dana Leigh Lyon’s efforts on Sober Substack. May your promises come true for you 🙏

There is so much here to unpack. And I can really relate to not playing the role you once had in order to maintain those relationships. Bravo!
