After three decades in hospitality—almost eighteen of which were dedicated to selling, teaching, traveling, and writing about wine—I made the decision to stop drinking after taking my last sip of alcohol with one of the best chefs in the world.
Thank you for sharing so openly and honestly, Liz. Huge recognition for the courage it must have taken to make this change in your industry. I love that more zero-proof options are becoming available! My favorite is honestly pretty basic: sparkling water with fresh-squeezed lime. :)
You tell a story that many in the hospitality industry need to hear. Too many feel that if they want lasting sobriety, they need to leave the industry. The opposite is true, my creativity and contributions to hospitality increased tenfold after I sobered up.
One of the funniest things I heard in a recovery meeting was a guy who described the alcoholic personality to a tee: "I work in in hospitality industry and I hate people." 🤣

Thanks for reading and sharing, Bruce. Love to hear about other folks thriving in hospitality while going alcohol free.
