Cheers to doing what you needed most to feel better, Laura. I, too, found that quitting alcohol was life-changing when it comes to both my mental and physical health. Thank you for sharing and inspiring!
This is awesome and so inspirational. I have been sober for 15 days, and I have seen an improvement in my sleep. When I was drinking, which was basically every day, all I could do was toss and turn. And I would stay awake for hours. I thought something was physically wrong with me. I went to the doctor and was given a clean bill of health. About a week into sobriety that is when I started sleeping better. I can't wait to be able to say, "I've been sober for 200 days." Keep up the good work! 😊
It takes a lot of courage to be sober in this society. Having just begun to dabble with “Sober October” and “Dry January” myself, I can see the benefits that a fully sober life would bring me. Those benefits have given me the strength to drastically reduce my consumption of alcohol but I still have a glass here, a sample there. With alcoholism ever present in my family, I know I’ll cut ties with this habit one day. Stories like yours help so much!
Wow, this really caught my attention because my sobriety date is June 20, 2023. Congratulations on your journey so far. I, too, lost 20 pounds almost immediately after quitting drinking. I had been "trying" to lose weight for nearly 10 years, and it was amazing how the weight fell off and my life immediately began to change for the better.
I see my story a lot in yours and I'm inspired. Best of luck on your journey - we've got this.
Good start. Once you get to where you are there’s really no reason to go back to drinking. The mental, physical, and spiritual improvements brought about by practicing sobriety are too many.
Keep on keeping on, Laura. I'm just over the 2 year mark and the abundance of happiness in my life shows outward now. It's a different world for me today. I only wish that I would have done it earlier in life!
Hi Laura, thank you for sharing. I’m in recovery from Alcohol since 11/26/1990. I was given 3 days to live with cirrhosis. My dad had died of that 4 yrs earlier. I didn’t die and wound up losing 100 lbs and a lot of hair. It was touch & go for 17 months. Best thing that helped me was on the 4th day of my detox the hospital made me go to 12 step recovery mtgs on the unit -2x / day. I got connected and still go ,virtual mostly. I wound up going back to school and becoming an AOD counselor and behavioral therapist. It’s been quite a journey and worth everything I went through . I just retired in 2019 after 29 years. I needed a lot of doctors , nurses , therapists and recovering people to do this . I hope you take advantage of accepting help if you need it. Your writing this shows me you would get help . My personal suggestion is to try a few AA mtgs and read about the “Disease Concept of Alcoholism “.The progression is usually fatal without help. “ UNDER THE INFLUENCE “ Book 2 is a great book imo. Thanks for sharing . ☕️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💛🙏🏼🌸

Thank you for reading. You’ve got this, and you will only keep feeling better!
Congrats on your 15 days! So great that you’re sleeping better - that’s been a huge benefit for me, too.
Congratulations, Laura.
Every day that I felt better contributed one more reason to refrain from drinking the next day. May it be the same for you, too.
Thank you so much!

Thank you. It’s not at all worth it for me to take a step backward. Moving forward with pride!

We gotta start somewhere, right? So glad you’ve found happiness.
It's peace, not happiness. We all need connection in life. I hope to one day meet "her".
