When people ask, "How are you doing?" I answer, "Better than I deserve." (Credit Dave Ramsey) It's not that I don't deserve a good life; it is a frank reminder that if I got what I truly deserved, I wouldn't even be here. I was saved by grace alone.
H.A.L.T. Being aware of hungry, anger, loneliness, and tiredness, feelings that can trigger the desire to pick up and use. Also, sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I used to see alcohol as my friend to hide behind my shame, give me courage, confidence, comfort my sadness, calm my anger, brighten my reality...my saviour in life.....I couldn't imagine alcohol/ this friend not being here until one day I had enough, I told myself if I can just get past one day then I will not look back...
So every day I tell myself " Your Positive, Your Healthy, Your Happy, You've Got this !
Amazing list. I’m still keen on yours, or Gil’s, where you are given the crossroads of consequences, almost like an informed consent form. Is it connecting or disconnecting? Is it constructive or destructive? Once you ask those questions about where the consequences lead, the right choice becomes clearer.
Thanks so much for sharing, Adam. I love the honesty in your/Yoda’s line. I rarely use the phrase "I’ll try" anymore. It’s as though I can see right through it, and it rings hollow when I hear myself say it.
“You are the sky; everything else - it’s just the weather…” - Pema. Be the sky. It’s always there. Calm, beautiful, without end. Let the weather come and go - it’s only temporary. You are the sky!!
Thanks for sharing, everyone! ❤️

Thanks for sharing, Richard. Reminds me of another saying and reminder that I love: “there but for the grace of God go I.”
Trust in yourself .. The love you deserve for moving forward, a better life unfolds.

Thanks so much for your contribution, Mac!
Here to encourage! We need more people to know they aren’t alone and that they can break their chains!

Love that, Jarrod. Pema’s work is dear to my heart.
“He who flies closest to the light casts the biggest shadow”
I guess it’s the same as it was when I was most lost and the stark, harsh truth finally got
to me:
“You were not born a drunk.”
True!

Big hearts and much gratitude to you, Rosemary. 🙏
As I heal more from all the things, going on 3 years sober, one that's been popping up is 'I didn't come this far to come this far'.
Early in sobriety, this motivated me when I felt close to a F- it moment... I didn't want to have to lose my string of days or weeks or months.
Now, it relates to what I will imagine my life to be and not putting a ceiling on that transformation!
Thank you Dana and all the contributors for your inspiration in this post 🙏🏽
Yes! I love that, Maria. It’s so cool when the meaning of a saying changes right along with us. Thank you for sharing and for being here. ❤️
